...Work on the Shepard Pond Dam will begin during the week of August 25, 2014...Weather permitting; the Canton Water Department will conduct eight weeks of day time hydrant flushing. Flushing will be conducted Monday thru Friday  between 7:30 am and 2:30 pm during the weeks of September 1st thru October 20th....The Department of Environmental Protection is requiring non–essential outdoor water use to be prohibited between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. through Oct. 1st...Pleasant Street Paving project on going road work will continue from July 23rd to August 15th...The temporary use drop off of white goods, burnable bulk and household rubbish overflow that cannot fit in new trash cart, can be dropped off at Hudson Road ( left off of Shawmut) on paved cul-de-sac.  Individual containers for each type of these items will be made available. Residents are asked to place these items inside appropriate containers. Leaving any item outside of containers is prohibited...

The Accounting Department is a division of the Finance Department for the Town of Canton. The Office of Accounting is headed by a Town Accountant appointed by the Director of Finance. The Office of Accounting is responsible for the following general duties: 

  • examination of all books and accounts of those Town agencies charged with the responsibility of the custody or authority to expend Town funds

  • preparation and processing of warrants and vendor checks

  • responsible for payroll administration

The Office of Accounting is also responsible for the internal auditing function to assure proper record keeping. The 1990 Annual Town Meeting by-law requires the Office of Accounting to act as the Office of Audit. For the purposes of this requirement, the office has access to all Town books, accounts, bills, vouchers, and all other records of financial transactions that are required for the performance of this auditing function. The Town Accountant, except as otherwise provided for in the Department of Finance by-law, has all the powers, duties and responsibilities that are given to Town Accountants by General Law.
