Open burning season is from January 15 through May 1. A permit is required for open burning and can be picked up at the fire station headquarters (99 Revere St) starting January 15.
Please be advised: Per order of the Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP), permits for open burning will based on the day to day air quality. If the air quality on any particular day is considered not healthy enough for burning, permits may not be issued. The following link on Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection website will give air quality readings daily at 8am.

Some basic rules for open burning
- Burning must be at least 75 ft from any buildings.
- Burning must be conducted between the hours of 10am and 4pm.
- Fire must be attended until completely extinguished.
- Have fire control tools on hand including a water supply, shovels and rakes.
- Use common sense when weather changes. Extinguish fire immediately if the wind becomes too strong.
- Should the fire get out of hand, don’t delay on calling the fire department.
