BLUE HILLS CIVIC ASSOCIATION OF CANTON, INC.

The Blue Hills Civic Association was founded in 1961 and has a current membership of over 100 families from in and around the Canton area. Originally named the Rustlewood Civic Association, the name was changed to Blue Hills Civic Association in 1977 to more accurately reflect the demographics of the group. The Association has been in continuous operation since its founding year and is, by far, the most active civic organization in Canton.

Article II of the by-laws describes the purposes, aims, and ideals of the Association as follows:
The purpose of the BHCA of Canton, Inc., shall be to provide a common meeting ground for the residents of Canton to study, discuss, and take action on any and all actions or problems that may affect, alter, change, or otherwise be inimical to the residents of the above stated area. The aims of the Association are to promote a spirit of cooperation, friendliness, and neighborliness among the residents of the area. The ideals are to keep the area a desirable, safe, and harmonious area in which to reside.

Article III of the by-laws describes the membership:
Membership in the Association shall be open to all residents of the town of Canton, citizens of Canton, or contiguous towns who are interested in the purposes, aims, and ideals of the Association and who have paid the requisite dues, as provided by the by-laws, may be elected members of the Association by vote of a majority of the Executive Board.

Listed below is a sampling of the manner in which our membership is currently serving the town in addition to their membership in the Blue Hills Civic Association:

Because of the large membership, close contact is maintained with virtually every major department in Canton. Members have been actively involved in many crucial decisions in town. Remember..........YOUR concerns are OUR concerns. We all share the same neighborhood.

The Board of Directors of the Blue Hills Civic Association meets on the second Wednesday of each month throughout the year with the exception of July. The meetings are held at 8:00 p.m. at the homes of the Board of Directors on a rotating basis.

The entire membership enjoys both social and civic activities throughout the year. A newsletter is published periodically and mailed to all members. Scholarships are given each year to graduating seniors whose families are members of the Association.

In addition, each year the Association awards the "Dr. Richard Elkort Citizen of the Year Award" to an outstanding member of the community who has enriched our lives by their example of community leadership and service. Forums are periodically sponsored by our membership on important neighborhood issues.. The membership also encourages voting at each town election by placing voting reminder signs in key public locations. Other civic activities have included a Halloween Safety program and most recently, the "York Street Clean-up" project.

The annual dues of the Blue Hills Civic Association are presently $25.00 per family and $12.50 for a single membership. A membership application is provided for those who are interested in joining. For additional information, you may call David Slutsky, President, at (781) 821-2322 or Sue Gibbs, Corresponding Secretary at (781) 821-0484.
