Michael Blanding is a Boston-based investigative journalist and is currently a senior fellow at the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism at Brandeis University.  Read more about the author and the book at his website.

The Friends of the Library and staff are preparing exciting programs for all ages coming this October to explore the issues raised in the book, culminating with a celebration and presentation by the author who has been in great demand throughout the region and the country.


Monday, October 6th at 7:00pm in the Community Room
Hiawatha Bray, columnist, Boston Globe will present: "You are Here: From the Compass to GPS, the history and future of How We find Ourselves". Mr. Bray makes a sobering case for our own complicity in creating a society where technology offers great benefits and conveniences but threatens individual privacy and independence.
Thursday, October 16th at 7:00pm in the Community Room
Jim Roache
, one of Canton's own historians will give a presentation on Canton history through the 1918 Map of Canton. See how Canton looked back then and hear interesting historic facts and anecdotes.
Tuesday, October 21st at 7:00pm in the Community Room
Ronald Grim, the curator of the Leventhal Map Library will give a presentation entitled, “In the Footsteps of the Crime”. The Leventhal Map Library was one of the scenes of the crime highlighted in The Map Thief. Mr. Grimm will talk about what it was like when the thefts were discovered.
Friday, October 24th at 7:00pm in the Community Room
The movie National Treasures (with maps, clues, riddles, and a lot of history), will be shown to attendees of all ages. Popcorn included!
Wednesday, October 29th at 7:00pm in the Community Room
Michael Blanding, author of The Map Thief, will join us for a final presentation/discussion and a closing celebration as our One Book, One Community program draws to a close.
[ There will be children's events the last three Saturdays in October (11th, 18th, 25th) available for all ages.
