September is Library Card Sign Up Month at the Canton Public Library!









1 Get Involved:

Join the Friends of the Library today! Come to the next meeting on Monday, September 8!

2 Use Free WiFi: All three floors at the library have strong wifi signals! Connect with your laptop, tablet, or phone!

3 Make a change:

Apply for a job using one of our computers, or bring your own laptop and work on your resume.

4 Rent space: The library has many “multiple use” spaces that can be used for most clubs or organizations, large or small. Some are free!

5 Give Blood: The American Red Cross will be at the library from 12-5pm. Please consider giving blood!

6 Learn to use Mobile Devices: Download eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines to your phone and tablet!

7 Download an eBook from home: The library’s closed, but you can check out a library book on your computer or tablet!

8 Join a book club: Tonight is the Biography Book Club, but other clubs include Mystery Lovers and YA for Grown Ups!

9 Meet the Author:

Diane Hester, author of new thriller set in Boston and around New England.

10 Start your novel: After being inspired by last night’s speaker, plug in your laptop at the library and start your own story!

11 Discover a new genre: Sign up for a newsletter, try some-thing from our new graphic novel section, or ask a librarian for a recommendation!

12 Check out a Museum Pass: Spend the weekend exploring some of the cultural attractions in the community!

13 Borrow a DVD or Blu-Ray: Take it home for a movie night with the whole family, or a casual date night in your living room.

14 Start the year off right: Use our databases and research tools at home to work on homework and term papers.

15 Change up your space: The library circulates art! Check out a painting for 3 months, then bring it back and try another!

16 Read The Map Thief by Michael Blanding: This year’s One Town, One Book! Check the calendar to learn about all the events in October!

17 Improve your focus and IQ: Achieve athletic, school, and work success by attending a free Work-shop by the Foundation for Wellness.

18 Celebrate Citizenship Day: Attend a free workshop about naturalization by the US Citizenship & Immigration Services Department.

19 Travel to a new planet: Check out a novel from the Science Fiction section!

20 Enjoy a Concert: The Open Book Coffee House is back for its 10th season! Come for live music and coffee!

21 Go green and stay current: Use Zinio to check out some of your favorite magazines from home! Read them on your tablet or computer!

22 Research your family: Come to the library to use our free subscription to! Leave with a free printout of one of your discoveries!

23 Try a new recipe: Check out a cook book. You’ll be sure to find one that fits your skill level and diet!

24 Play with some puppets, then take one home! The Junior Room has lots of puppets that can be checked out for 2 weeks, just like books!

25 Find Love: Check out a romance novel, a chick flick, or connect with someone special over coffee in out new café area!

26 Support the library while building your own: Come to the special Just for Friends Night of the annual Fall Book Sale!

27 Attend Story time: Start keeping track of the books you read to your preschooler to make sure you get to 1000 Books Before Kindergarten.

28 Check your stocks: Use our subscription to Morningstar Investment Research Center to keep track of your portfolio.

29 Think about the future: Use library resources to research colleges, study for SATs, or take practice career and grad school admission tests.

30 Find a quiet spot in the library and curl up with a good old fashion book!
