Updates to COVID-19 Coverage

As part of the federal government’s declaration of a public health emergency, Blue Cross and Blue Shield temporarily expanded coverage for COVID-19 tests, vaccines and treatment.

Here is What is Staying the Same:

The public health emergency ends May 11, 2023. 

Starting May 12:

  • Diagnostic COVID-19 tests ordered by a provider will continue to be covered at no cost to members
  • COVID-19 vaccines will continue to be covered at no cost to members when administered by in-network clinicians and pharmacies
  • Most COVID-19 treatments and services, including Paxlovid, will continue to be covered at no cost to members

Here is What is Changing

Starting May 12, BCBS will return to our original policy for over-the-counter (OTC) COVID-19 tests, which means they won’t be covered under your medical or pharmacy coverage. Keep in mind, these tests are still widely available and can be bought using your Flexible Spending Account (FSA), if applicable.
