The street trees in Canton are considered Public shade trees and are protected under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 82.
Hazardous Trees
Trees that are designated significant hazard are removed by Public Works Forestry Group as soon as the work can be scheduled and as resources allow. This determination is based on our staff's professional judgement. In general a tree is deemed to be a significant hazard if it has structural defects or irreversible decline that may cause the tree or part of the tree to fall and the danger is imminent or damage unrepairable.
The removal of any street tree that is not a significant hazard based on staff judgement is discouraged.
