pril 23rd at 12:30 PM  :  Big Band Swing, Part One. Via Zoom

Join Musical Historian, John Clark, for this fun and informative program.  Swing became the national soundtrack for most of the Great Depression and all of World War II.
This lecture traces swing from its African American origins up through Benny Goodman’s 1935 breakthrough radio performance and numerous hits like Sing! Sing! Sing! over the next ten years.
The other half of the program focuses on the smooth sound and incredible popularity and record sales of Glenn Miller beginning with his signature song Moonlight Serenade, followed by no less than an incredible 23 number one songs!
Glenn could play it sweet and swingin’ (like the classics In the Mood and Chattanooga Choo Choo). He even led an Air Force band and orchestra during World War II.  Don’t miss this wonderful program!
