Town Insurance Advisory Committee   2 Vacancies

Mission and Goals 

The insurance Advisory Committee will serve with the Town staff to review its current insurance plans such as general liability, worker's compensation, police/fire accident, and auto policies. We wish to undertake this review to ensure we have the best and most cost effective insurance program.

Canton Cultural Council - 15 vacancies

Mission and Goals

The Canton Cultural Council's mission is to promote excellence, access, education, and diversity in the arts, humanities, and interpretive sciences in order to improve the quality of life for all residents and contribute to the economic vitality of our community.  The Council strives to use its available grants to maximize positive impacts on Canton citizens.

Canton Veteran's Council - 7 vacancies

Mission and Goals

The Veteran's Council assists the Canton Veteran's Agent in planning and executing events involving veterans including Memorial and Veteran's Days celebrations, Honor Guard recruitment, holiday events for the community, food drives, toy drives and pancake breakfasts.

Economic Development Committee - 3 vacancies

Mission and Goals

The Economic Development Committee works to ensure that there will be a professional and open level of communication, support and trust between business community members and Town government. The committee supports existing and new business leaders in defining the process of managing and/or relocating businesses to Canton. This will ensure a vibrant business community which is essential to maintaining a financially balanced mix of tax revenue flow to the Town. The Committee works to ensure that Canton maintains its preeminent position as a leading corporate headquarters site in Eastern Massachusetts. In addition the EDC is responsible for interviewing applicants and making recommendations to the Select Board in the TIF application process.

Beautification Committee - 2 vacancies

Mission and Goals

The Beautification Committee is charged with the responsibility of advising the Select Board and other Town boards, departments and commissions in matters relating to aesthetics, recommend plans for public buildings and other public areas and may undertake direction of projects as authorized by the Select Board.

Historical Commission - 3 vacancies - (1 member and 2 alternates)

Mission and Goals

The Canton Historical Commission is established under Section 8d of Chapter 40 of the Massachusetts General Laws. The Historical Commission is the official Town agent of municipal government responsible for community-wide historic preservation planning. The Commission's duty is to identify, protect, and preserve Canton's properties and sites that are of historic significance. The Historical Commission works in cooperation with other municipal agencies, such as the Select Board, Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Conservation Commission, Community Preservation Committee, and the Building Inspector to insure that the goals of historic preservation are considered in the planning and future development of the Town of Canton.

Permit Advisory Committee - 1 vacancy, citizen at large

Mission and Goals

The Permit Advisory Committee informs developers of the many requirements which must be satisfied throughout the approval processes. It also helps or assists the developer in comprehending the Town's approval processes. Depending on the size and scale of the project, it may be to the developers advantage to have the Building Commissioner schedule a meeting with the PAC. The Building Commissioner shall call together the PAC within fourteen (14) days of receipt of an application. The developer will be asked to bring certain information including a concept site plan. A fully engineered plan with utilities is not needed. The PAC was created to help streamline the application and review process by performing a preliminary staff review of proposed projects. The Building Commissioner or Designee acts as a coordinator for projects reviewed by the PAC and is responsible for Agenda/scheduling the meetings. 

Volunteer Opportunities

There are two Citizen At Large members.  One is appointed by the moderator and one is appointed by the Select Board. The Select Board appointed position is currently vacant.  Preferred qualifications for volunteers are knowledge of Town's plans, goals, initiatives and the Master Plan. Reservoir Pond Committee - 1 vacancy - citizen at large

Mission and Goals

To make non binding recommendations to the Canton Select Board regarding the protection, use, access and regulation of Reservoir Pond.
