Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM)

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has issued preliminary copies of the revised Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) to the Town of Canton. These documents include proposed flood hazard information for the Town of Canton. These proposed flood hazard determinations, if finalized, will become the basis for the floodplain management measures that The Town of Canton must adopt or show evidence of having in effect to qualify or remain qualified for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

The Town is currently in a 90-day appeal period for these documents, during which any individual who feels their property rights will be adversely affected may present information and data supporting such claim to Canton Department of Public Works. This appeals period runs from 3/23/21 to 6/23/21.

In order to find your property, locate your approximate street location on the Firm Map Key Sheet. The final three numbers of the panels on the Key Sheet correspond to the final three numbers of the map figures (the documents starting with “25021C”). The document entitled “Letter – Revised Flood Insurance Rate Map” provides details on the appeals process. Please contact the Town of Canton Department of Public Works with any questions regarding these documents or the appeals process.
